Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz were eliminated from the Concacaf Nations League on Monday following a 4-2 defeat to defending champions USA in the second leg of their quarter-final tie at Energizer Park in St. Louis, Missouri. The Americans advanced with a 5-2 aggregate victory, having won the first leg 1-0 in Kingston. Jamaica now awaits their opponent for a play-off to secure a spot in the Concacaf Gold Cup.
Led by Christian Pulisic’s double, the USA dominated the first half, heading into the break with a commanding 3-0 lead. Pulisic opened the scoring in the 14th minute, finishing a swift counterattack with a chip over goalkeeper Andre Blake. He doubled the advantage in the 33rd minute when his shot deflected off a Jamaican defender. Ricardo Pepi, who scored in the first leg, made it 3-0 in the 42nd minute.
Jamaica showed resilience in the second half, with Demarai Gray ending his scoring drought since October last year by pulling one back in the 53rd minute. However, the USA restored their three-goal cushion just three minutes later through Timothy Weah. Gray struck again in the 68th minute, converting a rebound to bring the score to 4-2.
This marked Jamaica’s first away loss in the Nations League since 2019, while the USA maintained their perfect home record in the competition. Despite the defeat, the Reggae Boyz’s second-half efforts, led by Gray, added some respectability to the scoreline.
