Queens Woman Beaten To Death In Jamaica After Online Romance Meet-Up

A New York woman who travelled to Jamaica to celebrate her birthday was brutally killed after reportedly sending a desperate final message to relatives pleading for help.

Melissa Kerry Samnath, a 36-year-old accountant from Queens Village, New York, was found dead in St James after investigators say she travelled to the island to meet a man she had reportedly connected with online.

According to reports from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Samnath arrived in Jamaica earlier this month for what family members believed was a birthday vacation ahead of her 37th birthday celebrations. However, concerns were raised after relatives in New York received a chilling WhatsApp message from her late at night.

“I need you to call the cops… Look at my location… It is a pink house,” the message reportedly stated.

Family members said the message was the last communication they received from Samnath.

Investigators later traced the case to a house in Norwood, St James, where detectives reportedly discovered bloodstains and several of Samnath’s personal belongings. An autopsy later confirmed that she died from multiple blunt-force trauma injuries to the head.

Reports indicate that surveillance footage captured Samnath walking behind a man believed to be the main suspect while he carried her luggage from an Airbnb property shortly before her death.

Relatives told investigators they later received a shocking phone call from the suspect’s mother, who allegedly informed them that Samnath had been killed.

Residents in the Norwood community expressed horror over the incident, with one resident reportedly telling investigators that there was “a whole heap of blood” inside the house. Neighbours said they did not hear screams during the night.

Police say the suspect remains on the run and is believed to have connections in St James, St Ann, and St Mary. Investigators have launched a manhunt and are urging anyone with information to contact the police.

Family members described Samnath as caring, hardworking, and deeply devoted to her relatives. Her niece said she remained a pillar of support to the family following the death of her father.

The killing has sparked renewed concern over visitor safety and violent crime in Jamaica, especially involving social media encounters and online relationships. Tourism officials have so far declined extensive comment while investigations continue.
