Spanish Town is currently experiencing unrest following the fatal shooting of a prominent gang leader by the police.
The incident occurred Wednesday night in the Six Miles area of St. Andrew, where Othneil Lobban, known as “Thick Man,” was gunned down by members of the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime (CTOC) division.
Details surrounding the confrontation are still unclear, but the shooting has sparked protests in several areas of Spanish Town, including Tawes Pen, Ellerslie Pen, March Pen, Gordon Pen, the Market District, and John’s Road.
Residents have blocked roads and engaged in clashes with law enforcement, leading to widespread disruptions and damage to property.
St. Catherine High School has postponed its PTA meeting scheduled for today, and St. Jago High School has dismissed students early due to the unrest.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that a court building was set on fire during the protests.
The situation remains tense, and authorities are urging residents to remain calm and avoid affected areas.
