Kingston, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced a significant Cabinet reshuffle, appointing Member of Parliament for St. Andrew East Rural, Fayval Williams, as Jamaica’s new Minister of Finance. Williams will replace Dr. Nigel Clarke, marking a pivotal shift in the administration’s leadership of financial policy and economic management.

The reshuffle also sees a change in the Ministry of Education, as Senator Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, who currently serves as Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister, will assume the role of Education Minister. Dr. Morris Dixon’s current portfolio includes oversight of Information, Skills, and Digital Transformation, and she is expected to bring this strategic focus to her new role in education.

In addition, recently elected Member of Parliament for St. Ann North Eastern, Matthew Samuda, is set to return to the Cabinet. Samuda will serve as Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, a key ministry tasked with driving sustainable development and economic growth initiatives for the country.

She holds an MBA with a concentration in Finance from the prestigious Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated cum laude with a BA in Economics from Harvard University. Her appointment is seen as a strategic decision to leverage her financial acumen in steering Jamaica’s economic agenda through what are expected to be challenging fiscal times.

Prime Minister Holness’s Cabinet changes reflect a focus on consolidating expertise across pivotal ministries to bolster economic growth, enhance digital transformation, and elevate education standards. The appointments will take effect immediately as the government looks to advance its strategic goals in alignment with Jamaica’s Vision 2030 development objectives.
