Portmore, St Catherine – A 31-year-old security guard has been charged by the Portmore police after allegedly failing to return a rental vehicle and attempting to rent another car using a fake driver’s licence.
Tashaun Farquharson, a resident of St Andrew, has been charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, malicious destruction of property, and uttering forged documents.
According to police reports, in January 2025, Farquharson rented a 2016 Toyota Corolla for three days. However, he did not return the vehicle on the agreed date. The owner, upon realizing the car was missing, used a tracking device to locate it in Patrick City, St Andrew. However, upon arrival, only the tracker was found, with no sign of the vehicle itself.
The complainant then reported the matter to the police.
In a surprising turn of events, Farquharson later attempted to rent another vehicle from the same complainant. This time, he presented a driver’s licence that bore his photo but listed a different name. Suspicious of the transaction, the complainant contacted the police, leading to Farquharson’s arrest.
Following a question-and-answer session conducted in the presence of his attorney, Farquharson was formally charged. His court date is currently being finalized.
Authorities are urging rental companies to exercise vigilance when renting vehicles and to verify the authenticity of driver’s licences to avoid similar incidents.
