St Mary, Jamaica; Port Maria Supermarket Robbery Under Investigation -The St Mary Police are investigating a robbery that left two women injured after armed intruders broke into a business on Stennett Street early Tuesday morning.
Reports from investigators indicate that between 2 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., four masked men forced their way into the supermarket by removing sections of concrete that secured a metal grille to the building.
Police said the supermarket, which is operated by Chinese nationals, was occupied at the time by two women who were inside living quarters located upstairs.
After entering the premises, the men reportedly demanded money and assaulted the women during the ordeal. The victims sustained facial injuries before being forced downstairs, where the attackers searched the supermarket for cash.
Authorities said the establishment was ransacked while the suspects carried out the robbery. An undetermined amount of money was reportedly stolen before the men escaped the area.
The injured women were later taken to the Port Maria Hospital for medical treatment. Their injuries were described as non-life-threatening.
Commanding Officer for the St Mary Police Division, Superintendent Anthony Wallace, confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
