Police Shootout Leaves Man Dead In Frazer’s Content

SPANISH TOWN, St Catherine — The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of a man during an alleged confrontation with the police in Frazer’s Content, Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Sunday.

According to the police, the incident occurred about 3:58 p.m. when members of the St Catherine North Special Operations Unit and Street Crime Bond Unit were on patrol in Spanish Town.

The team reportedly received information that a man dressed in a blue shirt and blue shorts was seen brandishing a firearm in the Frazer’s Content area.

The police said the officers proceeded to the Frazer’s Content main road, where they saw a man matching the description.

He was reportedly accosted by the police, who identified themselves.

According to the police account, the man then pulled a handgun and fired at the officers while running into a premises.

The police said the officers took evasive action and returned fire.

The man was subsequently shot and fell while allegedly clutching a firearm, which was retrieved by the police.

The weapon was identified as a .38 revolver containing two live rounds. Three spent casings were also reportedly found at the scene.

The injured man was assisted to the Spanish Town General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

INDECOM is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
