MANCHESTER, JAMAICA – The Police High Command has raised the threat level for law enforcement officers in St. Catherine and Manchester following the fatal shooting of an alleged senior member of the Clansman gang during a police operation in Manchester today.
The deceased has been identified as Ronald “Richie” Evans, a resident of Clifton, Portmore, St. Catherine. Evans was reportedly a high-ranking figure in the notorious criminal network, which has been linked to numerous violent crimes, including murders, extortion, and gun trafficking.
According to the police report, law enforcement officers were conducting an early-morning operation targeting wanted criminals, illegal firearms, and drugs in the area when they encountered Evans.
The police say Evans opened fire on them, prompting the officers to return fire. He was shot and injured in the exchange and later transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In response to Evans’ death, law enforcement personnel in St. Catherine and Manchester have been urged to heighten their alertness, as authorities fear potential retaliatory attacks from gang affiliates.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the fatal shooting, as is standard procedure in police-involved incidents.
Law enforcement agencies continue to intensify anti-gang operations, targeting key members of criminal organizations in a bid to restore public safety across Jamaica.
