Police Nab Suspects in Shooting of Holmwood Technical Bus Driver

CHRISTIANA, Manchester — A school bus driver at Holmwood Technical High School was fatally shot on the campus Friday morning, prompting a swift police response that led to the arrest of two suspects in Clarendon.

The victim, identified as 47-year-old Rohan Gentles, was gunned down around 8:15 a.m. after transporting students to the school. Reports indicate that a gunman ambushed Gentles on the compound and escaped in a waiting vehicle. The suspects were intercepted approximately 28 miles away following coordinated police efforts.

Gentles, a well-regarded member of the school community, was awaiting the school’s football team to board the bus for a match in Spalding at the time of the attack. The incident has left students and staff traumatised, prompting early dismissal and plans for grief counseling facilitated by the Ministry of Education and local churches.

Holmwood Principal Hidran McKulsky described Gentles as a beloved employee who interacted well with everyone. He also called on the Ministry of Education to address security concerns, including the public thoroughfare running through the school’s campus.

The killing marks Manchester’s 45th murder of the year, surpassing 39 in the same period last year. This is the second school-related fatal shooting in Christiana in recent months. Community leaders have urged residents to unite against violence, describing the incident as a tragic loss for the parish and the nation.

Police have pledged continued presence at the school, particularly for boarders, as investigations proceed.
