A targeted police operation in Jeffrey Town, St Mary, on Tuesday morning resulted in the fatal shooting of a man described by investigators as a high-risk individual.
The deceased has been identified as 41-year-old Richard Moody, also known as “Bloody Guns,” of Penwood Road in Kingston 11.
Law enforcement reports indicate that the incident occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m., when a police team, acting on intelligence, carried out an operation to locate Moody. During the operation, officers reportedly came under gunfire. The police returned fire, and Moody was later found suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was transported to the Port Maria Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities say a .38 revolver containing two live rounds and three spent casings was recovered at the scene.
According to police records, Moody was deported from the United States in 2003 following convictions for possession of crack cocaine and criminal possession of stolen property. He had previously entered the U.S. as a lawful permanent resident in 1997.
After returning to Jamaica, Moody faced several legal challenges. In 2015, he was charged with murder and separately charged for breaching the Bail Act. A bench warrant was later issued for his arrest in 2017.
Investigators allege that Moody led the Tripe Lane Gang and was linked to multiple violent incidents, including murders and shootings across sections of Moscow, Tripe Lane, and White Lane.
Police further reported that following his release from custody in 2024, there was an increase in violent activity within those communities. This escalation was reportedly tied to an ongoing dispute between Moody and a relative.
Authorities have linked the feud to several serious incidents, including the 2024 killing of Anthony Marsh, the 2025 murder of Rushif Thomas, and a shooting that left a shop operator injured.
The police say investigations into the matter are ongoing.
