Residents in several St. Mary communities are now under curfew following a police directive aimed at reducing rising tension and addressing public safety risks in the parish.
The restriction covers designated sections of Boscobel, Stewart Town, Robins Bay, and Nutfield in Islington, along with parts of Tree Hill, Oxford, and Geddes Town. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the order took effect at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday and is scheduled to remain in place until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12.
Superintendent Anthony Wallace, who heads the St. Mary Police Division, said the curfews were introduced as part of targeted efforts to stabilize the affected areas and prevent further incidents.
According to Wallace, the zones identified are known to be frequented by individuals linked to criminal activity, operating between the Oracabessa and Port Maria policing districts, particularly near Stewart Town and Gully Road.
He stated that recent developments have weakened residents’ sense of security, prompting immediate intervention by the police to restore order and protect community members.
