A late-night confrontation between law enforcement and a St Catherine resident ended in a fatal shooting on Thursday in Waterford, Portmore.
Police have identified the deceased as 25-year-old labourer Shawn Seraton, who lived in the community where the incident occurred.
Reports from investigators indicate that around 10:30 p.m., a police team was conducting operations in the area when they encountered Seraton at the intersection of Hatfield Road and Paradise Way.
During the encounter, Seraton allegedly brandished a knife and advanced toward the officers. Law enforcement personnel reportedly responded by taking defensive action and discharging their weapons, resulting in him being shot.
He was transported to the Spanish Town Hospital for medical treatment but was later pronounced dead.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are now under review by the Independent Commission of Investigations.
