Police and Inmates Clash at Denham Town Lock-Up, Officers Pelted with Faeces and Urine

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Four police officers and several inmates were sent to hospital Wednesday morning following a violent confrontation at the Denham Town Police lock-up.

Around 9:30 a.m., officers entered a cell to retrieve items and were met with resistance from prisoners, who reportedly threw faeces, urine, and water at the law enforcement personnel.

Authorities said the police used appropriate less-lethal force to protect themselves during the altercation. Multiple injuries were reported on both sides.

The four officers and an unspecified number of inmates were transported to Kingston Public Hospital for treatment. Officials have not provided updates on the severity of the injuries.

The matter remains under investigation as police continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
