The PNP has picked up another seat after Luther Buchanan won by one vote over Daniel Lawrence of the JLP, in East Westmoreland. This came after the Returning Officer cast the tie breaker for Buchanan, who won the seat in 2016.
In the final count yesterday, the votes were tied at 4,834 for each candidate setting the stage, as provided for in law, for the Returning Officer to cast the tie breaking ballot. With the Buchanan win, at least for now, the JLP has won 48 seats to 15 for the PNP.
The JLP says it is likely to go to court to have a magisterial recount of the votes.
