PNP Demands Action as Petersfield Residents Face Displacement

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two months after Hurricane Melissa, about 185 residents of Petersfield, Westmoreland, remain displaced at Petersfield High School. The Government has reportedly ordered them to vacate the shelter by the end of December.

Opposition Spokesman Professor Senator Floyd Morris condemned suggestions to move residents to tents on the school’s playing field as “inhumane” and called the Government’s advice to seek relatives or rental options “unacceptable.”

Morris urged immediate action, including temporary housing, home repairs with JDF support, and long-term housing solutions. “A caring government must not abandon people in distress,” he said.
