The People’s National Party (PNP) has appointed Peter Bunting to be co-chair of its Election Campaign team. Previously the only chairman was Phillip Paulwell, who will now share duties with Bunting.
In addition, the PNP said that as of Monday, June 22, Bunting is to become Leader of Opposition Business in the House of representatives. He replaces Dr Morais Guy who the party said has asked to be relived of those duties.
The moves mean that the PNP continues to indicate unity after a bruising leadership battle months ago and a recent indication of continued discontent among supporters of the Bunting campaign for leadership.
A statement from the PNP quotes its president, Dr Peter Phillips, thus: “As the Party makes preparations for a re-imagined Jamaica, our election campaign will be led by co-directors Phillip Paulwell and Peter Bunting. Bunting has been officially added to the team and will help to drive a sophisticated and effective campaign to lead the PNP team to victory.”
The PNP said the party is focusing its combined efforts on winning the next general election expected later this year. “Having announced that all 63 candidates are election-ready, the PNP is highly motivated and united for a better Jamaica,” the statement said.
