Two people, a man and a woman, lost their lives in a horrific motor vehicle crash along the North South Highway early Saturday morning.
The incident came to public attention after a photograph began circulating online showing a heavily damaged white motor car on the highway. Several police personnel were observed at the scene, along with a fire unit positioned on the opposite side of the roadway.
A wrecker truck was also seen in front of the wrecked vehicle, suggesting it had been pulled onto the main roadway shortly before the image was captured.
Preliminary information indicates that the occupants were returning from a party in St Mary when the crash occurred. The extent of the damage suggests that the vehicle may have flipped or rolled several times before coming to rest. Significant damage was observed to multiple areas of the vehicle, including the roof and sides.
Speeding is believed to have contributed to the crash; however, this has not yet been officially confirmed by the authorities.
Police investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to determine the exact cause of the crash and to establish further details surrounding the circumstances leading up to the incident.
