MANCHESTER, Jamaica – The National Works Agency (NWA) has announced that the main road connecting Spur Tree and Greenvale in Manchester will be partially closed tomorrow, Sunday, November 24, to facilitate much-needed roadway improvements.
According to Stephen Shaw, Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, sections of the corridor will undergo milling to prepare for repaving. The repairs are part of a multibillion-dollar government initiative to address the worsening condition of roadways, many of which have deteriorated further due to prolonged heavy rainfall following Hurricane Beryl in July.
“The Spur Tree to Greenvale corridor is one of several critical roads being addressed under this program,” Shaw stated. He added that similar repair works are planned for the Gutters main road in St Elizabeth.
Motorists using the affected route are urged to proceed with caution, adhere to posted warning signs, and follow the directions of flag-persons on site. Traffic will be restricted during the work period as contractors work to complete the pavement repairs.
This effort is part of a broader push to restore Jamaica’s road network, which has suffered from years of wear and tear compounded by recent weather events.
Residents and commuters are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly and anticipate delays as the improvement works progress.
