KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) says its push against serious and violent crime has resulted in the death of one wanted suspect and the surrender of another within a 24-hour period.
Police confirmed that on Tuesday, Alex Brown, also known as “Raw Dog,” turned himself in at a police station in Clarendon. Brown had been listed as wanted for murder and was recently highlighted on the JCF’s Wanted Wednesdays public alert campaign.
His surrender followed a fatal confrontation involving another wanted man just hours earlier. At about 5:00 a.m. on Monday, Omoy Largie, otherwise called “Not Nice,” was shot and killed during an encounter with police in Green Island, Hanover.
Largie had appeared multiple times on the Wanted Wednesdays list in connection with the killing of Omar Nichols in Mount Carey, St James. The JCF reported that officers recovered a Smith & Wesson pistol along with five rounds of ammunition at the scene. Based on ongoing investigations and forensic findings, the murder of Nichols has now been officially cleared posthumously.
As required by law, the incident involving Largie was reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB).
The police are again urging individuals who are sought by law enforcement to surrender peacefully, warning that resisting arrest can have fatal consequences. Authorities also reminded the public that harboring criminals is a criminal offence.
Anyone with information about criminal activity or the location of wanted persons is encouraged to contact the nearest police station, Crime Stop at 311, the National Intelligence Bureau at 811, or the police emergency number 119.
