A deadly drive-by shooting rocked Hart Street in Montego Bay on Friday afternoon, leaving one man dead and eight others nursing gunshot wounds, two of whom remain in critical condition.
The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. when men travelling in a Toyota Axio motor car reportedly pulled up near a group of people gathered along the roadway. Without warning, the assailants exited the vehicle and unleashed a barrage of bullets using what witnesses described as high-powered rifles.
Nine individuals were shot in the attack and rushed to the hospital, where one man later succumbed to his injuries. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.
Acting Divisional Commander, Superintendent Carlos Russell, confirmed that the police are still processing the scene and that investigations are ongoing.
No arrests have been made at this time, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
The incident adds to growing concerns about gun violence in the area and highlights the continued threat posed by illegal firearms and organized criminal activity.
