Kingston, Jamaica (McN) – Kingston based Gynaecologist, Dr Lloyd Goldson, was acquitted of charges of procuring abortion, and administering drugs, to procure abortion to a 12-year-old girl.
OBGYN Performing Abortion on 12-Year-Old: Dr. Goldson was freed of all charges this week by Home Circuit Court Justice Vivienne Harris.
Harris who was the sole decision maker in this case, returned a verdict of not guilty.
The case was tried by the Judge after the prosecution and court accepted an application to have the case heard by a judge alone.
Attorney-At-Law, Hugh Wildman, who represented Dr. Goldson, cited the he recent amendment to the Jury Act, which states such cases can be tried by a judge only.
Reportedly in 2012, the mother of a 12-year-old her girl who was four months pregnant, took her daughter to Dr. Goldson, who allegedly, performed an abortion.
The incident was reported to the police.
Police investigated and arrested the Dr. Goldson, and the mother of the 12-year-old girl.
The girl’s mother, thirty-three year-old, was charged with procuring an abortion, cruelty to a child, and failure to make a report to the children’s registry.
She too was found not guilty of all charges.
The girl, who is the main witness, refused to continue with the case.
