ST JAMES, Jamaica — A January 31, 2025 court date has been set for Rushawn Patterson, who is facing charges in connection with the October 2022 murder of social media influencer Aneika ‘Slickianna’ Townsend. The new date was confirmed during Patterson’s appearance in the St James Circuit Court on Thursday afternoon.
The Crown informed the court that while the long-awaited postmortem report has been received, a DNA report remains outstanding. Given the incomplete nature of the forensic evidence, the Crown requested the January 31 date, which was granted by Supreme Court Judge, Justice Bertram Morrison. Additionally, Patterson’s bail was extended by the judge.
Representing Patterson in court was Senator Charles Sinclair, standing in for his lawyer, Dionne Mayler Barrett, who was absent.
The case has seen several delays, with the most recent adjournment occurring on October 18 due to logistical issues. Earlier delays were caused by the missing postmortem and DNA reports, which are key to moving the case forward.
The tragic murder of Aneika Townsend, known as ‘Slickianna’ on social media, has drawn significant public attention. Her body was discovered in the sea in Reading, St James, on October 21, 2022. Patterson is accused of strangling Townsend after an argument and disposing of her body. He was arrested on November 2, 2022, after failing to meet deadlines set by police to turn himself in.
Once all the necessary reports are finalized, a trial date is expected to be set.
