Mount Salem Man Shot-up and killed in front of Church on Sunday

St. James, Jamaica (McN) – The Mount Salem police have indicated that what is believed to be turf war between two rival gangs in the Mount Salem community has resulted in one man been shot and killed on Sunday morning, April 9th 2017.

The victim has been identified as Oraine Tellwell, 29-year-old Carpenter of Campbell’s Lane in Mount Salem.

Reports are that about 11:45 am on Sunday, Tellwell was walking along the Catherine Mount main road when a motorcar with three men on board pulled up beside him.

Two occupants of the car brandished handguns and chased the victim, who ran in the directions of the Mount Salem Open Bible church.

The gunmen caught up with him as he was about to enter the church yard and shot him several times all over his body, before making their escape in the waiting motor car.

The police were summoned and upon arrival they processed the scene and Tellwell was transported to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators have pointed out that a heated gang rivalry has been going on between men from various lanes in Mount Salem and this latest murder is believed to have stemmed from the gang rivalry.
