A motorcycle policeman from the Portmore police station in St Catherine was seriously injured on Tuesday afternoon while pursuing a gunman in the Waterford area. The incident occurred around 1:50 PM when the officer, on traffic duty, noticed a motorcyclist behaving suspiciously and instructed him to stop. The motorcyclist fled, discarding a bag that was later found to contain an illegal handgun.
The officer gave chase but was struck by a motorist, resulting in two fractured legs and other injuries. He was taken to the hospital and is in serious but stable condition. Authorities have launched a manhunt to capture the fleeing gunman.
