Mother in Custody After Discovery of Decapitated Children

A woman was taken into custody and admitted to a psychiatric hospital on Tuesday after her two young children were found decapitated in Guadeloupe, a French Caribbean territory, according to the prosecutor.

The children, ages one and four, were discovered in their mother’s home in the village of Sainte-Rose. The woman, in her forties, was deemed mentally unstable and was transferred to a psychiatric facility, prosecutor Caroline Calbo reported. Authorities have launched an investigation into suspected double homicide, she added.

A source close to the investigation stated that the children’s father alerted the police before dawn after discovering their bodies. Local radio station RCI Guadeloupe reported that he was in shock. The mother, according to the source, was incoherent and unable to explain what had occurred.
