Jamaica News: A total of $320 million will be spent by the Government in the 2019/20 fiscal year to augment the aged fleet of garbage trucks owned by the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA).
The money has been set aside in the 2019/20 Estimates of Expenditure, now before the House of Representatives.
Under the Local Government and Community Development Ministry’s Acquisition of Fixed Assets Project, a total of 12 garbage trucks will be procured within the financial year.
The project, which runs for five years from April 2015 to March 2020, will see the acquisition of 100 garbage trucks in total, to bring the NSWMA fleet to an acceptable operational level.
To date, a total of 28 garbage trucks have been purchased.
