A mother accused of killing her boyfriend after allegedly catching him attempting to sexually assault her young daughter has been found not guilty of murder.
Reports state that Erica Pereira da Silveira Vicente admitted to the killing of her partner, Everton Amaro de Silva, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. She told the court she acted to protect her 11-year-old daughter after receiving alarming messages and rushing home to find the man allegedly on top of the child.
Prosecutors argued the brutality of the attack suggested it was not an impulsive act, but rather one carried out with deliberate intent. However, the court ultimately ruled in Vicente’s favor, accepting that her actions were driven by an effort to defend her child.
