Minister Morgan Travels to Guyana for World Press Freedom Day Activities

Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) with responsibility for Information, Hon. Robert Morgan, is scheduled to depart Jamaica today (May 1) for UNESCO World Press Freedom Day observances in Georgetown, Guyana.

During the visit, Minister Morgan will participate in the ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Jamaica and Guyana, which will see both nations deepening their bonds of friendship and collaboration through knowledge-sharing.

He will deliver the main address at an awards ceremony and media appreciation reception under the theme ‘A Press for the Planet’ and will be a panellist at a stakeholders forum on climate matters.

Minister Morgan will be accompanied by Chief Technical Director in the Information Division, OPM, Nicola Ann Brown Pinnock; Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Information Service (JIS), Enthrose Campbell; and Deputy Executive Director of the Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica, Nicole Walford.

In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly declared May 3 as World Press Freedom Day.

This year’s activities will be commemorated under the theme ‘A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the face of the Environmental Crisis’.
Minister Morgan is scheduled to return to the island on May 4.
