Medical Assistant Pleads Guilty to Stealing Newborn From UWI Hospital

St. Andrew, Jamaica (McN) – The medical assistant who stole a newborn from her cot at the University of the West Indies Hospital in December, 2016, has plead guilty to the charge.

Accused 47-year-old medical assistant Lorna Williams, of a Rollington Town, Kingston address, plead guilty in the St Andrew Parish Court.

Reports are that Williams who was then a medical assistant and had access to the newborns at the hospital, stole the newborn girl from the cot beside her mother’s bed.

Immediate investigation into the disappearance of the child from the hospital lead to Williams home hours later, where the newborn was found.

Reports allege that Williams lied to her husband, who was overseas – that she was pregnant and gave birth to a baby girl. The husband scheduled to come home to Jamaica and meet his newborn, so Williams plot to steal a baby girl from a mother that just delivered one.

Sentencing is set for March 30, 2017.
