The Constant Spring police have confirmed that the 17-year-old, son of dancehall entertainer Mavado was questioned on the weekend and has now been transferred to the Matcalfe Street Secure Juvenile Remand Centre in Kingston.
One police source told our news team that following the Question and Answer Session investigation was still not satisfied with the outcome in regards to the entertainer’s son, so the law decided on placing him in secure custody until further investigations are carried out.
Four other of Mavado family members, who includes his brother were questioned and released. Recently dancehall artist Mavado and five of his family members found themselves under the police radar following a series of violence in the area.
The dancehall artist was asked to report to the Constant Spring police station while his teenage son and one of his brothers along with three other members of his family were taken into custody for questioning following an operation which was carried out in the Norbrooks and Cassava Piece areas of St Andrew last Tuesday evening June 5th.
All five family members were allegedly said to have been questioned in the presence of their lawyers Tamika Harris and Attorney at Law, Peter Champagne on the weekend. The police took all five persons into custody following the murder of, Lorenza Thomas otherwise called (Israel), 23 years old, unemployed of Cassava Piece.
Reports by the police are that, about 2:30 am, Thomas was at his home when armed men kicked open the door to his house and chop and shoot him to death. Thomas body was also set on fire by his attackers.
The flare-up in Cassava Piece started on Saturday morning of June 2nd, following a dispute between Mavado and another man from the area. The dancehall artist whose real name is David Brooks reportedly slap the man in his face, but minutes later he nearly lost his life when his motor car was shot up by the same man with whom he had the conflict and two other men.
Following the incident, Mavado is said to have left the country and flew to the United States but the violence did not stop there. Shortly after a man who is identified as Ian Robinson, Gaza Man, and who is said to be a close friend of Mavado was shot and killed in the vicinity of the Constant Spring Market on Saturday night about 9:30 pm.
Then on Tuesday morning, Thomas who is said to be a close friend of the man who fired at Mavado was murdered. This killing is believed to be an act of reprisal.
