Montego Bay, Jamaica – A pre-dawn blaze ripped through the building that houses the popular Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records restaurant on Jimmy Cliff Boulevard early Saturday morning, leaving behind extensive structural damage and sending shockwaves through the tourism capital.
According to reports, firefighters were summoned shortly after alarms were raised about flames coming from the roof of the multi-use structure. By the time crews managed to contain the inferno, the entire roof had collapsed inward, crushing sections of the restaurant and destroying key areas of the upper floor.
Emergency responders say the damage is estimated at nearly US $1 million, but the final figure could be higher as assessments continue.
A senior firefighter told reporters that crews battled intense heat and heavy smoke as the blaze rapidly consumed the wooden elements of the upper structure. While no injuries were reported, the official confirmed that the cause of the fire remains under investigation, and fire marshals are expected to return to the site for a detailed forensic review.
