Manhunt Launched for Man who Attempted to Rape 75-year-old Woman and Set Her on Fire

Jamaica Crime News, St James: The St James Police say that they are now appealing to members of the public for their assistance, to apprehend a man who doused a 75-year-old woman with gasoline and set her on fire, hours after attempting to rape her at her home in Lima district, St James, on Thursday morning.

Detectives attached to the Freeport and Adelphi police stations say they are presently combing every inch of the parish to apprehend the accused, whose true identity is not yet known.

Reports are that shortly after 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, the elderly woman was at her house in Lima district, when she was attacked by the unidentified male who made sexual advances at her.

She managed to fight off her attacker and raised an alarm, resulting in the man fleeing the scene.

About 6:30 a.m., the elderly woman was walking along the roadway in the vicinity of her home, when she was again attacked by the same man, who held on to her, pour gasoline over her body and set her on fire.

Residents in the community ran to the assistance and the unidentified man fled the scene.

The Adelphi police were summoned and upon their arrival, they found the woman in critical condition with over 90% burns to her body.

She was rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where she was treated and admitted in serious condition.

The police say they are now asking any member of the public who can assist them in apprehending the man responsible for this cruel act or to get his identity, to immediately contact the Adelphi police at 876 912-1026, police 119, or the nearest police station.
