The Manchester police have imposed a ban on entertainment events in select communities as part of efforts to curb escalating violence in the parish. The decision follows a series of inter- and intra-gang conflicts that have resulted in several shootings and five murders over a seven-day period earlier this month.
Zone Commander for Manchester, Assistant Superintendent Llamar Clarke, announced that the police would suspend the issuance of permits for parties and other events until order is restored. Speaking to residents in the community of Albion on Thursday night, ASP Clarke emphasized that no exemptions would be granted during this period.
“The situation is tense, and we are prioritizing the safety of the communities. Until we can stabilize the area and reduce the violence, all entertainment events will be prohibited,” ASP Clarke said.
He reassured residents that the measure is temporary, noting that permits for events will be reissued once the police are confident that calm has been restored.
However, the ban has already begun to impact local businesses and individuals who depend on the entertainment sector. Party promoter Natalie McKenzie expressed frustration over the move, stating that she has already felt the financial effects of the ban. “This is a major blow for us. A lot of people depend on these events for their livelihood, and we hope things can return to normal soon,” McKenzie said.
The Manchester police are urging residents to remain patient as they work to quell the violence and restore order in the parish.
