The man accused of abducting a six-year-old girl from her school in Clarendon has been remanded in custody until February 2026, as the case continues before the Clarendon Parish Court.
The accused is 44-year-old Jeffrey McKenzie, otherwise called “Face.” When he appeared in court last Thursday, a psychiatric evaluation was ordered by the presiding judge.
McKenzie has been charged with abduction, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, larceny from the person, along with other serious offences.
According to reports, on December 9, McKenzie reportedly went to the child’s school, took her by the hand, and led her away from the compound. The incident was subsequently reported to the police, prompting the issuance of an Ananda Alert.
McKenzie’s movements were cut short along the Bustamante Highway, where he was intercepted by Hayes Division Councillor Scean Barnswell and his wife. The couple reportedly recognised the child from a photograph that was circulating in a community group chat.
McKenzie was subsequently handed over to the police, while the child was safely reunited with her parents.
The matter has raised renewed concerns about school safety, as investigations continue.
