Knockpatrick, Manchester — A man identified by residents and relatives only as ‘Osah’ was fatally shot by police during an alleged confrontation on Lucky Street in Knockpatrick, Manchester, on Wednesday evening.
According to preliminary police reports, the incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. at a house in the community. Officers reported seizing a firearm at the scene and claimed there was a shootout.
However, relatives and community members are challenging that account, insisting that no exchange of gunfire took place.
“He was sleeping, but the police a say a shootout. No shootout no go so,” one relative said, alleging the man was killed without provocation.
A young boy, believed to be the victim’s son and present during the incident, was taken from the scene by police.
“Dem carry him away. He did drop down out there so a cry… The little boy don’t have no mother and him father gone now,” the relative added.
Video footage reportedly showing the aftermath of the shooting has been circulating, capturing officers lifting the limp body of a man and placing it into the back of a van before driving off.
The deceased was described as a hardworking farmer and higgler. While some residents declined to speak publicly, others echoed the family’s concerns, calling for transparency and accountability regarding the police’s actions.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is expected to probe the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
