Kingston, Jamaica – A man was fatally shot by police, and an illegal firearm was seized during an early morning incident on Crescent Road in Kingston 13 on Tuesday.
As of press time, the deceased remained unidentified. Authorities reported that the recovered firearm was a Glock 19 pistol, loaded with a magazine containing eight 9mm rounds.
According to reports reaching Observer Online, the incident occurred around 2:50 a.m. while a police team was on patrol in a marked service vehicle. Upon reaching a section of the roadway, officers heard gunfire, prompting them to stop and investigate.
It is reported that officers observed a man dressed in a blue shirt emerging from Bowens Road onto Crescent Road, carrying a firearm. When police called out to him, the man allegedly pointed his weapon at them and opened fire.
Fearing for their safety, the officers returned fire. The man attempted to flee toward a football field but collapsed shortly after.
Emergency medical services were called to the scene, and the injured man was transported to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of the firearm.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
