Man Fatally Shot After Attacking Police with Machete in St Elizabeth
Jamaica Crime News, St Elizabeth: The Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM) has now commenced a probe into the circumstances which led to a man being fatally shot by the police in Black River, St Elizabeth on Monday night, April 23.
The deceased has been identified as, Ian Stephenson, of a St Elizabeth address. His shooting has come about just days, following a similar incident where a man who is said to be mentally challenged viciously chop an on-duty traffic cop in Christiana, Manchester.
Reports by the Black River police are that shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Monday, a team of officers were on Patrol in Baton Town when they responded to a message of a dispute in the area.
It is further reported that, upon reaching the area, the lawmen saw the accused with the machete in his hand and he was cautioned. He immediately attacked the lawmen with the machete and was fatally shot.
The machete was removed from the scene while he was transported to the Black River hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Just several days ago a police Corporal assigned to the Christiana Police Station in the neighboring parish of Manchester was chopped severely to his face by another machete-wielding attacker. The injured Corporal is present in serious condition at hospital.
