Trelawny, Jamaica – A middle-aged man has been arrested and charged by the Trelawny police in connection with the alleged sexual touching of an eight-year-old girl.
The shocking incident has sent waves through the quiet community where the child attends school.
Deputy Superintendent Ainsley McCarty, Commanding Officer of the Trelawny Police Division, confirmed the arrest but declined to name the accused at this time.
“We are investigating other reports along similar offences conducted by the accused. We are holding on to his name because he will be facing an identification parade,” McCarty said.
The accused reportedly resides in the same community where the victim’s school is located.
The school’s principal confirmed that the Ministry of Education has since stepped in to provide counselling for students and staff affected by the incident.
“We are aware of the incident. The whole staff does not condone any form of criminality against our students,” the principal stated.
Investigations are ongoing.
