SPANISH TOWN, ST. CATHERINE — A 40-year-old man is facing multiple charges following the alleged sexual assault of his ex-girlfriend’s eight-year-old granddaughter. The man was formally charged on Saturday with buggery and grievous sexual assault, according to the St. Catherine North police.
The alleged incident occurred in December of last year after the young girl returned home from school. Authorities report that the child’s grandmother had briefly left the residence to run an errand in a nearby field. It is alleged that during this time, the accused entered the child’s bedroom and perpetrated the assault.
The alleged crime came to light when the child confided in a school employee. This disclosure prompted the school to file a report with the police. Subsequently, the Centre for Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) initiated a thorough investigation.
The investigation led to the man’s arrest on Friday, March 14. He was subsequently charged with the aforementioned offenses.
A court date is pending, and the accused will be brought before the court to face the charges. The St. Catherine North police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
