KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaican citizens eligible to vote in the upcoming general election have until Monday, March 31 to register for inclusion on the next National Voters’ List. With the election slated for September, timely registration is crucial for ensuring every eligible voter can cast their ballot.
The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) is calling on all unregistered individuals aged 18 and older—whether Jamaican citizens or Commonwealth nationals who have resided in Jamaica for at least 12 consecutive months—to complete the registration process before the deadline. The EOJ emphasized that only registered voters will be permitted to participate in Election Day.
In-Person Registration Process
Applications must be submitted in person at any EOJ constituency office across the island. To streamline the photo-taking portion of the registration, applicants are advised to wear either bright or dark-coloured clothing. Following the in-person application, an EOJ team will conduct a home visit to verify the applicant’s address before processing the registration.
Registration is provided free of charge. The EOJ also reminded those already included on the Voters’ List not to reapply; instead, they should request a renewal if their voter ID card has expired. In fact, some voter ID cards have been automatically renewed and are currently awaiting collection at EOJ offices.
Upcoming Voters’ List Update
The National Voters’ List is updated twice a year—on May 31 and November 30. Those added to the May 2025 list will be eligible to collect their voter ID cards in June, ensuring they are ready to vote in the upcoming election.
With the general election on the horizon, the EOJ’s reminder underscores the importance of every eligible voter taking action now to secure their voice in shaping the nation’s future.
