Veteran Hollywood filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found stabbed to death inside their Brentwood, Los Angeles residence, according to law enforcement sources.
Emergency crews were called to the couple’s home on Sunday, December 14, 2025, for a medical aid call shortly after 3:30 p.m. First responders discovered a man and woman inside the residence suffering from fatal injuries. The pair were later identified as Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.
Police say both victims had wounds consistent with stabbing. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division has taken over the case and is treating the deaths as a homicide investigation.
In a brief statement, the family confirmed the deaths and asked for privacy as they grieve. “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the statement read.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the incident a devastating loss, citing Reiner’s lasting cultural and social impact through decades of film and television work.
Rob Reiner was best known for directing iconic films such as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, and When Harry Met Sally…. He also rose to fame as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the classic sitcom All in the Family.
The couple, who married in 1989, share three children. Media reports citing sources familiar with the investigation say an adult family member may have discovered the bodies. Police have not publicly confirmed a suspect or made any arrests, and a motive has not yet been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
