CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The digital world and the Kansas City community are in mourning following the sudden death of Alysha Burney, a rising social media star. Burney, who captivated an audience of over 5 million followers across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, passed away in her sleep on March 2nd while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. She was just one day shy of her 25th birthday.
Burney, a Kansas City native and University of Central Missouri graduate, had built a thriving online presence, showcasing her creative talents and entrepreneurial spirit. Beyond her social media fame, she was the founder of “ABurneyProductions,” a production company that had already produced several films, including “Shiesty,” “Shiesty II,” “Lost Angeles,” and her latest project, “Hot Girl Get Away.”
According to her brother, Charles Burney, who was with her at the time of her passing, Alysha died following an asthma attack while asleep. “She was not selfish with her knowledge and was a very open book about her journey. She will always be dearly loved, and her legacy will live on forever,” he said.
Charles Burney also sought to address the rampant misinformation circulating online. “She does not do drugs. She was a self-loving and happy individual who cherished her life and was looking forward to the upcoming year’s plans,” he emphasized. “She was in Mexico to celebrate her birthday. She was a very classy young woman.”
Friends and colleagues remember Alysha as a driven and passionate individual. She held a Bachelor of Science in Digital Media Production and was pursuing a graduate degree. Her ambition was evident in her work, which often reflected her desire to tell compelling stories.
At the age of 19, Alysha was hand-selected to audition for the popular television show “Wild ‘N Out.” While she wasn’t chosen for the show, her family says the experience fueled her determination to succeed.
“Her lifelong goal was to be a writer and a director,” Charles Burney said. “Another goal she had was to return to Kansas City, open a production studio, and help other young creatives from Kansas City get to where she was.”
Alysha Burney had recently relocated to Los Angeles but maintained strong ties to her Kansas City roots. Her legacy as a talented creator and a generous spirit will undoubtedly live on through her work and the memories she created with her family, friends, and fans.
