Constable Joel Robinson of the St Catherine North Division has won the Chairman’s Award at the 2026 LASCO/JCF Saluting Our Heroes Awards, receiving $175,000 and a promotion to corporal.
Robinson, a school resource officer in the JCF’s Community Safety and Security Unit, emerged from six finalists recognised for their contributions to policing and public service. Commissioner of Police Dr Kevin Blake announced his promotion during the ceremony.
Reacting to the award, Robinson expressed joy and gratitude to God, describing the selection process as demanding.
His work involves partnering with students, teachers and school administrators to improve school safety, resolve conflicts and mentor young people. He also helps identify at-risk students and address issues linked to bullying, violence and gang involvement.
Robinson has contributed to the Strategic Workshop on Anti-Gang, which supports vulnerable young people, and Operation Learn Not Loiter, which encourages students to remain engaged in school while reducing opportunities for fights and gang-related activities. He also serves as assistant welfare liaison officer for his division.
He encouraged young Jamaicans interested in joining the JCF to pursue the opportunity with a willingness to serve.
Sergeant Ricardo McCalpin of the Non-Geographic Formation placed first runner-up, receiving $125,000, while Constable Nicholas Linton of Area Four finished second runner-up, earning $100,000.
Sergeant Darrall Ellis of Area One, Corporal Shevana Burns of Area Three and Sergeant Saneisha Johnson-Watkis of Area Two placed third, fourth and fifth runner-up, respectively. Each will receive $75,000.
Blake also announced Linton’s promotion to corporal and Burns’ promotion to sergeant. McCalpin, Ellis and Johnson-Watkis will participate in a developmental course for inspector roles.
