ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has pledged to press ahead with the construction of bypass roads in several major towns across the island should it secure victory in Wednesday’s general election.
Speaking at a mass rally in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Sunday night, Robert Morgan, Minister with responsibility for works, announced that new bypass roads are planned for Mammee Bay in St Ann, Spur Tree in Manchester, Port Antonio in Portland, and Lucea in Hanover.
Morgan also revealed that plans are in place to extend the highway from Williamsfield, Manchester, through to the border of Westmoreland, easing the burden on both farmers and business operators.
“So all the farmers dem from St Elizabeth know say it ago cheaper fi carry you goods go a Coronation Market. The businessman a Westmoreland you nuh haffi spend so much money pan gas fi transport yuh goods,” Morgan told the cheering supporters.
Framing the initiative as part of the JLP’s commitment to infrastructure development, Morgan declared:

The announcement comes as the JLP intensifies its campaign messaging on development, positioning itself as the party best equipped to modernize Jamaica’s road network and boost economic activity across parishes.
