The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is encouraging members of the public to rate their experiences after accessing services at police stations across the island.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Desmond Brooks, from the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau, emphasized that the initiative is aimed at improving service delivery and ensuring that the JCF meets public expectations.
“Some facilities feature kiosks where citizens can provide feedback electronically, while others distribute short questionnaires,” ACP Brooks explained. “These surveys include simple rating systems that allow us to gather both numerical scores and written comments.”
He noted that the system is designed to be user-friendly, even for individuals who may struggle with English. “The kiosks include intuitive features like smiley faces and emojis, making it easy for everyone to participate,” he said.
Speaking on the Police Civilian Oversight Authority’s Citizen’s Corner Podcast, ACP Brooks highlighted that the feedback helps the JCF identify specific areas for improvement. The data collected is analyzed to assess satisfaction with services, facilities, and even individual officers at police stations.
Since implementing the surveys, the JCF has made significant improvements. ACP Brooks recalled that one major issue raised by the public was the lengthy processing time for accident reports. “Based on that feedback, we re-engineered the process of producing police accident reports, dramatically reducing turnaround times,” he noted.
Filing traffic reports has also become more efficient, with simplified forms reducing the time spent dictating statements to officers.
“That is why we ask for the service to be rated,” ACP Brooks said. “ By listening to the public, we can eliminate time-consuming steps and provide faster, more responsive service to address citizens’ concerns.”
The JCF is urging all Jamaicans to take advantage of the rating system and provide honest feedback, as it continues to enhance its service delivery across the island.
