Kingston, Jamaica — The chief crime scene examiner from the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) testified on Monday that he was unaware police had visited and processed Constable Noel Maitland’s Chelsea Manor apartment before his team’s official examination, following the disappearance of social media personality Donna-Lee Donaldson.
While under cross-examination by defence attorney Chadwick Berry, the examiner admitted he did not know that officers went to Maitland’s St Andrew apartment on July 15, 2022 — two days after Donaldson was reported missing.
Berry also pressed him about a second reported visit to the apartment on July 21 by another police team, allegedly accompanied by members of the Institute of Forensic Science and Legal Medicine.
“You are not aware of what was done on the 15th of July, similarly on July 21?” Berry asked.
“I don’t know,” the witness responded.
Berry questioned whether INDECOM operates independently of both the Jamaica Constabulary Force and the Institute of Forensic Science and Legal Medicine. The examiner confirmed that it does, though he added: “We work together.”
The court also heard that the examiner and his team visited Maitland’s apartment on July 28, where they observed and documented several stains resembling blood — including on a pair of drapes, a wall, and a cream cushion cover found atop a barrel. Those items were collected, packaged, and submitted to the Government Forensic Laboratory for testing.
During further questioning, the witness admitted that while he recorded the names of some people present at the apartment in his notebook, those notes were never handed over to police.
Donna-Lee Donaldson, a 24-year-old influencer, swimwear entrepreneur, and customer service representative, was last seen alive on July 11, 2022, when Maitland reportedly picked her up from her mother’s home. Her mother, Sophia Lugg, testified that she spoke with her daughter on the morning of July 12 but was unable to reach her afterwards.
Maitland is currently on trial for her alleged murder and for preventing the lawful burial of a corpse.
The trial continues today before Justice Leighton Pusey in the Home Circuit Court.
