Illegal Firearm Seized, Gunman Shot and Injured in St Thomas

Jamaica Crime News, St Thomas: A man who pointed an illegal firearm at an off-duty policeman in Bull Bay, St Thomas on Sunday, December 2, was shot and injured, the weapon was seized by the police.

The identity of the accused man who is presently at hospital in serious condition is being withheld pending further investigations.

Reports by the police are that about 6:55 p.m. on Sunday, the off-duty police officer was walking at a location in Lane Gate, 11 Miles, Bull Bay, when he was approached by the accused, who brandished the weapon and pointed it in his directions.

The cop took evasive actions and drew his licensed firearm then fired several shots at the gunman, hitting him multiple times to his upper body.

The gunman fell to the ground and the lawman seized the weapon, an M4 Carbine Rifle, loaded with sixteen,  5.6 rounds of ammunition.

The wounded man was transported to hospital, where he was admitted under police guard.
