In their latest 11:00 p.m. advisory, the Met Service has issued a continued Hurricane Warning for Jamaica as Hurricane Beryl strengthens and approaches the island.
Hurricane Beryl has now escalated to a potentially devastating Category 5 storm on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.
While some fluctuations in intensity are anticipated over the next day, Beryl is expected to remain a significant hurricane as it moves into the central Caribbean on Tuesday and nears Jamaica on Wednesday.
A slight weakening is predicted thereafter, but Beryl is projected to stay at hurricane strength in the northwestern Caribbean.
Hurricane-force winds extend up to 65 km (40 miles) from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds reach up to 205 km (125 miles).
All small craft operators, including fishers from the cays and banks, should have completed their safety precautions and are advised to stay in safe harbor until all warnings are lifted and conditions have normalized.
