KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police in the Kingston Western Division seized an illegal firearm during a targeted operation on Wednesday afternoon in Kingston 13.
Reports from the Denham Town Police state that at approximately 4:25 p.m., a team conducted an operation at a premises on Ramsey Road. During a search of an unfinished building, officers discovered a Hi-Point 9mm rifle hidden between two sheets of zinc.
No arrests were made in connection with the find. However, investigators say the operation was intelligence-driven and part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on gun violence and illegal weapons in the division.
The police have since launched a probe into the origin of the weapon and whether it is linked to any recent criminal activity in the area.
The Kingston Western Division remains one of several hotspots under increased police surveillance due to ongoing concerns about gang activity and illegal firearms. Residents are being encouraged to share information anonymously to help remove guns from their communities.
