Hanover’s Most Wanted Fatally Shot During Confrontation with Police

Hanover, Jamaica – Remearo McCallum, Hanover’s most wanted man, was fatally shot during a confrontation with security forces in the Forest district on Thursday afternoon.

McCallum, 33, also known as ‘Macky,’ was confronted by police and military personnel during a joint operation.

Reports indicate that the operation commenced shortly after 1:00 p.m. as law enforcement officers closed in on McCallum’s location. Upon reaching a section of the community, McCallum allegedly opened fire on the officers, who responded with gunfire, killing him instantly. A 9mm semi-automatic pistol, loaded with a single live round, was recovered from the scene.

McCallum had been on the run for multiple crimes, including the murder of his cousin, Dwight Levy. The fatal incident occurred on January 11, 2023, during a domestic dispute over land in Forest community. Additionally, McCallum was implicated in several shooting incidents across Cold Spring, Pond Side, and Rejoin.

His criminal activities also resulted in the death of his father, 63-year-old Hugh McCallum, who was killed in Cold Spring as an act of reprisal. McCallum’s reign of terror had cast a shadow over the community, making his apprehension a priority for local law enforcement.

The successful operation by the joint police and military forces marks a significant step towards restoring peace and security in the affected areas. Authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to apprehend other wanted individuals and ensure the safety of residents.
